Chamber Soloists of Detroit has proudly created a tradition of presenting the area’s finest virtuosi in collaboration with emerging and renowned guest artists. Its vigorous pursuit of international outreach and touring opportunities enhances Detroit’s global image as a cultural leader.
Founded in 2012 by artistic director, pianist Pauline Martin, Chamber Soloists of Detroit was launched with the blessing of her teacher and mentor, pianist Menahem Pressler, whose unforgettable performance ushered in an auspicious opening season. CSD has since been greeted with warm enthusiasm by audiences in Canada and Europe, leading to its celebratory 10th anniversary debut performance at the famed Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in 2022.
Michigan audiences can hear live CSD performances at our partner venues, The Hawk Mainstage Theater in Farmington Hills and Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor; CSD is also available for guest appearances at venues in the area and beyond.
It has been noted that the Chamber Soloists of Detroit concert experience embodies the essence of chamber music. Key to the power of CSD’s presentations are its thoughtfully crafted programs for varying combinations of instruments, performed by musicians whose mutual desire to captivate and move their audience has drawn them to this ensemble. That they are recognized internationally as soloists is incidental to this intimate connection with the audience.
Led by Artistic Director Pauline Martin, CSD is supported by a devoted fan base and an artistic advisory board of such luminaries as pianist Menahem Pressler, former Detroit Symphony Music Director Gunther Herbig, pianist André Watts and violinist Andrés Cárdenes.
Facing the Music Together
The uncertainties associated with the Covid-19 pandemic have thrown performers and arts organizations around the world into uncharted waters.
Its impact on CSD extends not only to our normal plans for subscription concerts and Out and About appearances in Southeastern Michigan, but also to our first European tour, originally scheduled for the fall of 2020.
As we learn to adapt to the new normal, we are inspired by Plato, who said, “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”
In optimistic anticipation of a festive tenth anniversary season in 2021-2022, we are pleased to announce the Save the Music Campaign, dedicated to the production of professional audio and video recordings of current and future CSD performances for the continued enjoyment of our subscribers online.
We also look forward to a truly celebratory European tour, now rescheduled for November of 2021.
So please, Stay Well and Stay Tuned!
